About us?

Cancun Oncology Center opened its doors in December 2012, thus becoming the first cancer center in Quintana Roo and for April 2013 we started with the radiotherapy service. We are affiliated with the Cancer Center TEC100 (Querétaro, Mexico) and the Gamma Knife Dominicano Center (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic). We are located in Tower B of the Galenia hospital.

Hospitalization:

The hospital has 55 rooms of different categories: Presidential Room, Master Suite, Junior Suite, standard and special room for bariatric, as well as for delivery in water.

We are the only high-tech center in Mexico with state-of-the-art technology, awarded three accreditations, and a team of highly trained and well-accredited medical professionals. The quality and safety of the patient is the most important.

Our services

Radiotherapy:

We have a dedicated tomography team to do all the imaging-based radiotherapy treatment planning. Our linear accelerator uses all the necessary accessories for high quality treatments such as:

  • Modulated Volumetric Arc Therapy (VMAT)
  • Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
  • Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS)
  • Superficial radiation therapy (SRT)

Our patients also receive support during the time of their treatments by our team of psychologists, nutritionists and physiotherapists.

Prof. Christer Lindquist

Prof. Christer Lindquist

Radio Neurosurgeon

Dr. Christer Lindquist, MD, PhD is a neurosurgeon who was trained at the Texas University and the Karolinska Institute. Prof. Lars Leksell and Prof. Ladislau Steiner were his teachers. He was chief of services for the Gamma Knife Center, and Neurosurgery professor and chief of course at the New England Gamma Knife Center in Brown University, England. Professor Lindquist is founder and president of the Leksell Gamma Knife Society, and president of the International Society of Radiosurgery (ISRS) Today he is the medical director of the Cromwell Gamma Knife Center in London, England.

Dr. Richard L. Weiner

Dr. Richard L. Weiner

Radio Neurosurgeon

Dr. Richard L. Weiner, MD, FACS is a member of the Dallas Neurosurgical & Spine Association, and works at the Dallas Presbyterian Hospital. He is an associate professor of the Texas University Medical Center. Dr. Weiner is an expert in treatments with SNC microsurgery and bone marrow, in addition to vascular neurosurgery. Currently his main practice is based on stereotaxic radiosurgery (Gamma Knife), multimodal treatment of brain malignant and benign tumors, and surgery in diseases of the cervical and thoracic bone marrow.

Dr. María Claudia Mallarino

Dr. María Claudia Mallarino is a Medical Oncologist who was born in Colombia, and acquired vast experience in oncological treatments at Florida Cancer Specialists, Sarasota, USA. She graduated from the Colombian Medical-Military School and later she made her residency and doctoral degree at Oncology University of Stanford. She was an Oncology deputy professor at the Texas Tech University.
